Hair Removal
> Painless and Permanent
Do you take a rough approach to smooth skin? Now there’s a truly better way to remove hair compared to tedious and/or painful procedures such as shaving and waxing.
Palomar’s revolutionary Starlux IPL System clears away unwanted hair quickly, comfortably, and safely, with long-lasting results. Developed in conjunction with leading medical researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital, the Palomar Starlux is the IPL (Intense Pulse Light) to remove hair safely and effectively from all types of skin, including Asian, African American, Latin American, and even tanned skin.
> Hair Removal with the Palomar Starlux IPL System
The Starlux System is designed to provide both maximum results and a pleasant experience for the patient. Once the patient is sitting or lying in a comfortable position, the operator gently places the cooling handpiece on the skin. The handpiece delivers pulses of energy to the hair follicles. This energy heats the follicles, disabling them or even eliminating their ability to produce hair. Before, during, and after each pulse of the IPL, the handpiece actively cools the skin, protecting it from damage.
Until now, treating persons with dark or tanned skin has been a problem because the pigment in such skin absorbs enough of the laser energy to cause considerable side effects and discomfort. However, the Starlux Technology makes hair removal available to everyone.

> Older Methods of Removing Hair
Shaving:
Shaving is a simple procedure, but it’s also messy and time consuming. Plus, it’s only a temporary solution, one that requires a constant commitment. (And who needs nicks and cuts?)
Tweezing:
Ouch! This quick fix is not only painful... it’s extremely impractical for large areas! And, if you’ve ever tweezed, you know that the hair you pluck will only grow back again.
Depilatories:
Another temporary solution. This messy procedure requires a significant time commitment and must be repeated about once a week. Caution: If depilatories are left on too long, they can cause severe skin irritation or even chemical burns.
Waxing:
Waxing can cover large skin areas and may last for a month or more. Yet this procedure is painful and can cause allergic reactions as well as inflammation of the hair follicle.
Electrolysis:
This procedure involves sticking a needle into each hair follicle and applying an often painful electric current. In expert hands, electrolysis can successfully eliminate hair. But because you can treat only one hair follicle at a time, it’s a tedious and time-consuming process that is best reserved for very small, isolated areas.
